This past Thursday I visited the Olympus Toastmaster club. I was warmly greeted by Mary Jane the club president. I was asked if wanted to say a few words since one of their speakers had to cancel at the last minute. I jumped at the opportunity to speak, since I had a speech in my hip pocket. The meeting started on time and guided superbly by Jim (Chairman) and Phyllis (Toastmaster & Master Evaluator). I talked about “Change” as it relates to the club, area, and Toastmasters International. I appreciated the feedback I received from Gretchen. I had the opportunity to listen to a presentation from the Better Speaker Series on “Selecting Your Topic”; Karl did an excellent job of conveying the message of the training. I had a sense that everyone got something out of it. I absolutely loved the Table Topics that was led by Liz. The table topics involved scenario conversations between a celebrity and random generic person. One of the scenarios was president Obama at a car accident with an old person. I’m planning to steal her idea and try it at my club. The meeting was well attended and it was fun and enjoyable. I can’t wait to visit the club again in September.
