So far as an area we have brought in 6 new members since July good job Capitol and ComQuest! Kudos to Comquest Cub for having two points this early in the game. If ComQuest could get two more new members by the end of August and maintain their current membership this next Dues period. They could get 100 TI bucks. I'm proud of all of the clubs in the area. keep up the good work. Remember the 17th is the big day also the International Convention starts tomorrow. If you want to keep up with the happenings go to the TI link here. I'm off to eastern Washington this week I should be back in the area Thursday.

Are You Ready for Some Friendly Competition?

Are you BAD enough? Are you BAD enough to be the best club in Area 33? You will get a ribbon for being a distinguished club, but you will get this for being the BAD-ASS Toastmaster Club in Area 33. I will give out the details on my next club visits in September. Game on!

GUTS - Smedley Challenge

Do you all have the GUTS to speak! GUTS is the acronym for Get Up To Speak. In honor of our founder Dr. Ralph Smedley. I'm challenging every Toastmaster in Area 33 to complete a manual speech during the Smedley membership campaign. I did this last year at my club when I was club president and the club has not stop speaking since. In fact this past toastmaster year our club members performed 110 speeches. I want to do the same for Area 33. This is the perfect time for all of us to recommit to the principles that Dr. Smedley used to establish Toastmasters as the premier speaking and leadership organization that it is today.

Dues Increase

The board of directors @ TI have just released a dues increase effective 1 October 2011. Here is an excerpt from the announcement:

"Dear Toastmaster member,

As directed by policy, the Board of Directors periodically reviews membership dues to ensure that the organization can satisfy member needs while continuously enhancing their experience and the services and programs provided. After a review of the organization's five-year financial forecast of activities compared with forecasted revenue, the Board has voted to increase membership dues.

As a result, on October 1, 2011 Toastmasters' annual membership dues will increase from $54 (U.S. dollars) to $72 (U.S. dollars), payable in increments of $36 (U.S. dollars) every six months.

Several factors drive this increase:

    1. Member needs are greater than ever.
    2. Since 1995, membership has grown nearly 55%, from 169,330 members in 1995 to 262,000 in 2010. In this same period, annual dues increased only once in 2005 from $36 (U.S. dollars) to $54 (U.S. dollars).
    3. Toastmasters has passed the economy of scale established a decade ago; its support services must expand in order to better serve its ever-expanding member base.
The increased funding will be used to enhance member support and services, and enable the implementation of the five-year Strategic Plan that was developed by the Board of Directors in 2010."

If you have questions the link to the FAQ's is here. If you have further questions please email duesincrease@toastmasters.org. Please pass this on to your treasurer. If you decide to raise your individual club dues you will need to change your club's by-laws and it will take a two-thirds vote of your clubs active membership to make the change. Remember Dues notifications go out August 15th!

Club Officer Handbooks Update

Our district governor just got off the phone with TI here is what he said:
" Club Officer manuals were sent out by the printer in Michigan on Jul 22nd. The Jul 14th date I have given out was the expected day of shipment, it actually happened on the 22nd. They say 7 to 10 business days for delivery. That puts and end date of Fri Aug 5th for expected delivery. The manuals are consolidated as they said earlier. In the shipment will be your 7 manuals, one for each officer. They also point out that the PDF versions are on-line at Toastmasters.org " Sometime next week the manuals will show up. Please look for them and have your predecessor look for them also.

TLI

I'm happy to report that all of the clubs in the area have made the officer training requirements for the summer TLI. We had twenty-six officers trained during this TLI round. A special shot out goes to the officers of Comquest and Capitol Toastmasters Clubs. All of their officers attended the training. Excellent job! Dues, re-branding, and contest are coming up. Keep up the good work. See you all in September.

Two New Members Plus an Ice Breaker

Comquest have two new members. They are: Queniya Lassiter and Mark Haller. Queniya also completed her first icebreaker speech. Good Job! Welcome to Toastmasters and Area 33.
